White Mountains - Day 1

This week we are taking a little vacation in our backyard, the beautiful White Mountains. Last year James and I got away for our anniversary and we stayed in a wonderful hotel at the foot of Mount Washington. We knew that Camille and the kids would love it so months ago we planned to return. This week however has been full of surprises and a bit of chaos too. So at the very last minute we ended up taking Colin with us. This meant that we needed a third room and amazingly we were able to get one. (Thank you God!) We were also taking Sam so our car was VERY full.

We left a little late, as always, and forgot some key things which was unusual. But we are only a couple hours away from home and we were in plenty of time to meet up with Noel at the Muddy Moose. It was so wonderful to see her! We really need to come up here more often. The food was excellent although I am rather astounded at the appetite of the boys! Both Christian and Will got the buffalo burger and loved it. Christian inhaled his so fast he was done before I'd taken two bites.

Sam was very patient. He had to stay in the car while we ate but it wasn't too warm and we took him out many times on the trip up. But still I think he was glad to make it to the hotel. Our three rooms are on three different floors and Camille is on the top with a gorgeous view of the mountains. The three older boys, Colin, Will, and Jon, are sharing a room on the second floor while Christian and Sam stay with us. I was a little worried about that, for various reasons, but so far it is working out well. The big boys have some freedom (with limited electronics) and Christian seems content to remain with us. We are spoiling him a bit more which probably helps.

We had about an hour and a half to settle in before our appointment at the pool. Because of Covid this particular hotel requires that everyone reserve their time and says that only 10 people can be in the room. James took the kids down and Camille and I took turns watching Sam and visiting the kids in the pool. The boys had a blast although, or perhaps because, there was more wrestling than swimming in the shallow pool.

Tomorrow we are off to explore the mountains a bit, and hopefully we'll actually take some pictures!
